Was there a war in Vietnam, the draft 1969?

I'm just asking this for my own benefit, because my dad once said, "Richard Nixon is my favorite president because he stopped the project. "I wonder first, what year did this because he was elected in 68 I think, but I think there was a "draft lottery" in 1969 "(can anyone explain how it worked?) Thanks!

The project ended in 1973. Lotteries project started in 1969 and replaced the local draft boards. The draft was written decided. The draft boards do not like, because many People suspected of favoritism. The postponement system is also suspected, because the most common deferments were for students in college and people think that unfairly favors that could afford to go to college. In practice, this was mostly irrelevant, since it was only a postponement, an exemption, and as soon as he graduated from the university or the left that became eligible to be drafted (my two older brothers were drafted within a year after graduating from college). Lotteries worked by day of the year drawing to chance. Then take the first date and the project to all men Eligible born on that day, then the second date, and so on until it had developed a sufficient number of men. The lottery is generally considered more just, but many men who were in college at a time (like me) we are longing for the postponements in college 4 years!
