My fiance’s house is a old and needs work. He hates it and I hate it. He won’t move bc he grew up in it?

He grew up in this house and he likes the neighbors. That is Why he won’t move. I hate the house. It’s old, cold, small, and I hate the driveway. he oftern complains about the house as well and says if he won the lottery he would tear it down and re-build. I can’t stand the house. He only won’t move because he grew up here and likes the neighbors. I honestly can’t see myself living my life out in this house when we can sell it and get a better house. I feel like I am sacrificing something to be with him. What should I do? Do you think it’s normal for him not to want to move because he grew up here and likes the neighbors even though he doesn’t like the house either?

the house is familiar to him and he has memories of that house. You said that he has said if he won the lottery then he would tear it down and build a new one so why don’t you discuss tearing it out and building a new one right there. after all it doesn’t really matter what the house looks like or what the address is it isn’t a home till you make it a home. Old houses have character that you can’t get with a new home. there are other things that could be done with an old home things like remodeling to add insulation and upgrade electrical/ plumbing /size and appearance. So you really aren’t giving up anything to be with him you have Gained a new best Friend that you will have many trial and tribulations with. Enjoy yourself and make that old hose a Home.
