A question on "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson?
I am writing an essay explaining how the use of literary resources creates a sense of horror. I wrote things like "the knowledge retained" (which the author told readers the "prize" lottery) but I have to re-write because not explain "how to create a sense of horror." What should I do? Thanks!
Well, you're not completely appalled once discovered what happened? The part that is combined with the horror is in part the subject (Questioning authority / tradition and the root of the crowd.) The sense of "hey this can happen to me." It is not the literal stoning, but the fact that you could get sucked into following the crowd, or blinded by tradtion.
