Is it Better to buy 2 $10 scratch/instant lottery tickets or 1 $20 ticket?

The $20 ticket says odd are 1 in 2.96. The $10 ticket says odd are 1 in 3.32.

I assume that you live in MA. MA has the best lottery payback percentage of any state, and it’s still only about 69%. That means that for every $1 you spend, you’re throwing away 31 cents in the long run.

As you said, the bigger the game, the bigger the payout. That may mean that the $10 ticket pays back something like 71% and the $20 ticket pays back something like 72%. Either way though it’s not worth playing if what you’re trying to do is come up with a reasonable strategy to win more. All you would be doing is learning how to lose less, which is defeating the purpose.

If you’re determined to spend $20 though and it’s for the entertainment or whatever, just buy the $20 ticket because the chance to change your life will be slightly higher.
