If the victim of domestic violence is okay for the police to go to the old address and tell your neighbors?

A friend of mine was involved in a situation of domestic abuse. She was my neighbor for about 2 years. The detectives came to my house today looking for it. They told me and my boyfriend was pregnant and the baby's father beat him up and he's in jail. I felt like this was my concern. I was able to contact her on facebook to let you know, but when I was talking to her seemed annoyed that I had said that his private business. I agree with her completely. Is this a common practice to disseminate information to victims nonfactor people in the state of Illinois. Told me he could win the lottery or something I'm still in contact with it lol because I want some of the profits:)
