Condition:
It is in good overall condition. The radio is repaired and picks out even the faintest stations, and the phono changer is also rebuilt.
The cabinet is in great condition and is crack/chip free.
A small portion of paint has flaked off of the front steel grille area.
History: We got this unit from an Atlanta area GoodWill store.
Repair:
When we got this unit:
- Cabinet looked like something corrosive had spilled over the dirt covered top surface.
- Turntable didn't rotate
- Tone arm wouldn't rotate: It was frozen in place.
- Radio would only produce a loud hum
- Brass cabinet trim was tarnished to black
First we fixed the top cabinet surface which was etched with embedded dirt with lots of water, clean rags, tub & tile cleaner and wax. It did a good job of cleaning and producing a brilliantly shining surface, but not quite the mirrored image it once was.
The radio went through a general cleaning. We replaced the line cord for safety sake, and put in new filter capacitors which made the radio function again.
The phonograph changer required complete disassembly, cleaning, lubrication and adjustments. The original crystal cartridge was bad (I'm not supervised) so we replaced it and it works great.
