Sometime in 1986 we were strolling through a Savanna flea market. Tucked under a table was an old cardboard box labeled $5.

Unrecognizable at first because it was completely disassembled, dirty and brush painted flat gray we discovered an old cuckoo clock.
Once home we realized most of the parts were there so we stripped all the dirty gray paint off and refinished it with staining wax. Some of the roman numerals were missing and we improvised with paint. The minute hand was broken to bits so we hastily fashioned this temporary one.
Both of the bellows had already been recently refurbished. (These make the bird sound)

The mechanism was ultrasound-cleaned in 1989. Since then we have learned the proper cleaning and maintenance of these old clocks and apply special whale clock oil once a year to specific points.

The pendulum was replaced in 2000 because the original one was lost after our family moved to a new house.
